The Language of the Sun

The Art of Solar Infusions

There are two ways to extract the soul of a plant into oil. One is the quick, fiery way of the double boiler. The other is the slow, patient way of the sun. Solar infusion is a method that captures not just the chemical constituents of the herb, but the energetic warmth of the summer sun itself.

The Process

1. Wilt your Herbs: Use fresh herbs like St. John's Wort or Calendula, but let them wilt for 12-24 hours. Too much water content will spoil the oil.

2. Pack the Jar: Place the plant material loosely in a clean glass jar.

3. Cover with Oil: Pour organic olive or almond oil over the herbs until they are submerged by an inch.

4. The Waiting Game: Place the capped jar in a sunny window for 4 to 6 weeks. Watch as the oil changes color—from pale yellow to deep green, gold, or the blood-red of St. John's Wort.

"You are not just making an oil; you are bottling sunlight to use in the dark months of winter."

Why Solar?

The gentle heat of the sun expands the plant cells slowly, releasing delicate volatile oils that high heat would destroy. It is a relationship of time and trust. The resulting oil is spiritually charged, carrying the vibrant, expansive energy of the season.
