Poor Man's Coffee
A rich, dark, roasted Dandelion root beverage. A caffeine-free detoxifier that tastes surprisingly like coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Fresh Dandelion Roots (dug from a clean area)
  • Water for scrubbing

The Process

Why Dandelion Root? It deeply supports liver function and digestion. Unlike coffee, which can jitter the nerves, dandelion root grounds and nourishes.

Instructions:
1. The Harvest: Dig up large taproots, preferably in the fall when the plant energy has gone underground. Wash them vigorously to remove all soil.
2. The Chop: Chop the clean roots into pea-sized chunks.
3. The Roast: Spread on a baking sheet. Roast at 350°F (175°C) for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are dark brown and smell like chocolatey coffee. Do not burn them, but go dark!
4. The Grind: Let cool, then grind in a mortar or coffee grinder.
5. The Brew: Simmer 1 tablespoon of ground root per cup of water for 10-15 minutes. Strain and serve with milk or honey.
